Elska Art Print: "Gruaig"
This portrait is of Matt M, a lad featured in our Elska Belfast (Northern Ireland) issue, here lazing on his bed, forgetting that a camera was there. The name ‘Gruaig’ means ‘hair’ in Irish. I realise that using the Irish language in Northern Ireland can be controversial, but I like being rebellious, and I think Matt would feel the same. What's more controversial perhaps is this blatant fetishisation of ginger hair. I know a lot of people get pissed off at the notion that Ireland is full of gingers, but I also remember how cruelly ginger kids were bullied at school, so let's celebrate red hair!
